Heating and the fireplace
The first fire of the season is the most irritating one of the year. After the summer the wood is damper, the chimney is cold and the draw is weak. Before the fire catches, half a box of matches is gone.
A proper firelighter helps – the solid kind copes even with damp wood and burns long enough for the log to catch.
Please note: A cleaning log does not replace the chimney sweep. Book the annual inspection separately.

All Saints': classic candles
Most people visit the cemetery on the weekend around 1 and 2 November. Classic candles burn with a warm light and simply look better on a grave.
What matters is the burn time, always printed on the packaging. Smaller inserts last around two days, heavier composite candles four to five.
Practical tip: If you want the light to last the whole period, pick up a spare insert straight away or choose a candle in a glass.

All Saints': LED candles
On windy cemeteries, or where you cannot visit every week, LED candles are more practical. They do not blow out, they do not leak and they stay lit for several weeks at a time.
Many people combine the two – they light a classic candle during the visit and leave the LED for the rest of the period.

As soon as it gets colder outside and the heating goes on, moisture condenses on the coldest spots – window frames, corners behind furniture, the bathroom with no window.

De-icer belongs in the car by the middle of October at the latest. The first morning frost tends to arrive exactly when nobody is ready for it.
